Feb 21, 2019· St. Helena Goes to the Holy Land In the year 324, Constantine sent Helena on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in search of the "Holy Sepulcher" and "The True Cross." The " Holy Sepulcher " is the location of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, while "The True Cross" is the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified.
The Chapel of Saint Helena is dedicated to Saint Helena of Constantinople, mother of Constantine I. Helena is regarded by the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Oriental Orthodox churches as a saint and regarded for her piety. She married Constantius and had Constantine in February of 272.
About this time, Constantine's mother, St. Helena, converted to Christianity. (She died in the year 330 at about the age of 80.) According to the early great Church historian Eusebius, she was about 63 at the time of her conversion. With the authority of her son, St. Helena went to Palestine in search of the sacred sites about the year 324.
